Abstract
The Korean Society for Intravenous Anesthesia(KSIVA) was formally established at Rivera Hotel, Daejeon city, Korea on the 15th, June 1996 by the 47 founding members concerned with intravenous anesthesia who attended the first general meeting. The members of this society now number about 300 persons by september 1997, which amounts to about the 20% of the total anesthsiologists in Korea. The purpose of this society is to study, to educate and to develop intravenous anesthesia. We are planning to have an academic meeting twice a year and to publish scientific journals of intravenous anesthesia 4 times a year. The major fields which we are concerned with are drugs such as intravenous anesthetics, opioids, muscle relaxants, techniques of intravenous anesthesia, fluid therapy, use of patient controlled analgesia and use of cardiotonies, etc.. I surveyed 97 hospitals including university hospitals and resident training hospitals about the distribution and the service of intravenous anesthesia in July 1997. Among them, 58 hospitals-39 university and 19 resident training hospitals-replied to my survey.
